See Meeting minutes from 2011-03-08.
Almost at the bottom of the page... 803.09(b)(3) gets changed.

TDs will no longer be able to predetermine where OB shots are to be taken from. The player will always have the ability to choose from the drop zone, 1m in, or previous lie.

This amounts to rules meddling in course design.

Fail.

Take, for example, CF #13.

No more mandatory drop zone... unless you ask the pdga tour manager.

Who needs that sort of cr@p?

Perfect (well, in the case for CF 13). Play it where it lies!

Let's remember that this is only for PDGA events. But I agree, bad decision. Almost as bad as the smoking ban. Almost.

If we are to follow the pdga rules to the letter 13 ob becomes foolish -- the ace run will always be rewarded with a 1, 2 or circle 3.

We could eliminate the OB and make people play it where it lies. If you want to move your disc to keep your feet dry, you need to follow the rules of relief: direct line away from the basket and take a stroke.

Just sayin is all...

I couldn't agree more. If you are ascared of running the basket there is loads of room in front of it to lay up your drive

I for one would love to get a deuce from the drink

I took the shoes off on monday and canned a chilly-footed putt from 20 feet out.

It was very exciting.

This is different from what the new rule will be about.
There is a purpose to the OB rule.

Take the creek out and OB with it, and 13 is just a down-hill shot. Making it so you can take your boot off if you go in the creek just makes it a different hole for woodsmen and metros3xuals. Why the need for such cavalier discrimination? Should someone have to risk the longevity of a pedicure for a good score?

By now, you can likely see where I'm going with this.

13 with a mandatory drop zone changes that hole entirely, especially for those of us that are willing to get our feet wet. 13 with the option to place 1m in just makes it stupid.

The rules gave the TD a chance to deal in a good way with course design nuances. The new rules will take that away.

That was a sweet putt. It's interesting how we were talking about that during our round.
